If you like holograms such as this one from Star Wars, you’re going to love this gadget, because with this, you can view and create your own holograms from the comfort of your own living room.

The kit has been created by a startup called HoloVit according to Mashable and has just launched an Indiegogo campaign to try and get it into the consumer domain. The device comes in three different sizes which range from 9.8 x 15.3 inches to 25.5 x 35.4 inches and all you need is either a phone, tablet or a TV screen to get it up and running. The device also comes bundled with an iOS and an Android game, or you can have fun creating weird holograms of yourself.
The device comes in at $165 retail, and although it seems a little expensive, its not the main showstopper for me. I think its a really cool device that would be awesome to show off to your mates and have a couple of hours of fun with but I can’t really see much use for it beyond that so I’m not sure 100% the concept will work. Another caveat is that you can only see the holograms from behind the HoloVit screen so there are no 360 degree views.
Maybe the device does have a future as it still has a way to go in terms of its crowd funding campaign so the product might not exactly resemble how it is currently described, but I still remain skeptical. Personally I would also rather use a device that is a lot more interactive such as this incredible device by Magic Leap, which I can’t stop thinking about.
