For those that have been living in a cave for the past couple of years, the Amazon Firestick, is well, a stick and it gives you extra stuff to watch on your TV. It's very similar to the Amazon TV box although not quite as powerful and similarly plugs into the back of your TV in the HDMI port.

The Amazon TV stick allows you to stream Full HD content from services like Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer and Netflix. You can also stream music from Spotify and play a host mobile games from the Amazon App Store. One of the best things about the Amazon Firestick is that you can install apps onto it and one of the best apps out there has got to be Kodi. If you're not familiar with Kodi, it is open source media center software that has home entertainment in mind and of course, it is totally free.

Kodi was originally created for the Microsoft Xbox and was called the Xbox Media Center (XBMC). The software has continued to evolve and has spawned a community of its own. It is managed by the non-profit XBMC Foundation and is maintained, modified and upgraded by hundreds of developers around the world.

What does Kodi do?

Well it basically allows you to turn computers, smartphones and tablets into a digital set-top box or streamer and provides users with the ability to stream files from the internet directly into your front room. The software features a "10-foot UI", which gives Kodi the ability to be read from a theoretical distance of up to 10ft away so you have a great experience whether you view it on a your big screen TV or a smartphone.

How To Install Kodi On Amazon Firestick Without PC

Well here is our step by step guide to installing Kodi onto your Amazon Fire TV stick. Its easy enough and you can do it without using your PC, but you must follow the steps exactly. By following this guide, you can get all the entertainment provided by Kodi onto a little stick that you can carry around with you. So here we go!

Step 1:

If you haven't already got yourself an Amazon Firestick, you can pick one up here from Amazon.

Step 2:

Plug in your Amazon Fire TV Stick into the HDMI slot on the back of your TV and power it up. We assume that you have been through the registration for the rest of this guide.

Step 3:

With your remote control navigate to Settings menu, click System and then click Developer Options and make sure that "Apps from Unknown Sources" is set to ON.

Step 4:

Navigate to Applications and set "Collect App Usage Data" to OFF.

Step 5:

Navigate to Search and type "ES File Explorer". Once you find ES File Explorer, download and wait for the installation to complete. If you get a message saying "ES File Explorer install, you can delete its unused apk to save 5.44MB", then go ahead a press OK to save space. Once installed, it may popup a message saying "Find a new version, update now?". If it does, go ahead and press "Update" to get the latest version.

Step 6:

In ES File Explorer, on the left hand side column, press the "Add" button. In the "Add to favorite" popup, there will be two options – Path and Name. Enter the following:

Path: http:\\\download
Name: kodi

Then click the "Add" button.

Step 7:

Scroll down on the left hand side column to "Kodi" which you have just created a bookmark for and wait for the page on the right hand side to fully load. Once fully loaded, look for the green Android icon. Underneath the green Android icon, you should see two links where it says "or APK install". The first link is "ARM", the second is "x86". Click on the "ARM" link. This is the ARM Version of Android. Clicking this will download the Kodi app as an APK file.

Step 8:

Once downloaded, you should get a popup saying "Download successfully". On this popup, click the "Open file" button.

Step 9:

You will now get another popup with three buttons on it "Cancel", "Market" and "Install". Click on the "Install" button.

Step 10:

You will now get another popup saying "Do you want to install this application? It will get access to:". Again, click "Install". Kodi will then install as an application on your Firestick. Again, you will get another popup saying "Kodi installed, you can delete its unused apk to save 57.88MB". Again, click "OK" to save space. A final popup will then say "App installed". Click "Open". Congratulations, you have successfully completed an install of Kodi on your Amazon Firestick!
